Description
Mixfield is a Max for Live device for Ableton Live that lets you control multiple tracks (including return tracks) from a single XY interface.
Instead of adjusting volume and pan one track at a time, Mixfield places your tracks inside a shared visual field. Each track is represented as a node, allowing you to shape the balance of your mix through movement rather than individual parameter tweaks.
By positioning tracks across the field, you can quickly define spatial relationships and level distribution. The X axis controls stereo placement, while the Y axis controls level, giving you an immediate overview and hands-on control of your mix.
Built-in preset slots let you store and recall different volume and panning setups instantly. This makes it easy to A/B rough balances, test alternative mix directions, or quickly check how different spatial distributions affect your track.
This approach is particularly effective for building rough balances, exploring new arrangements, and creating dynamic movement between elements. It reduces repetitive adjustments and encourages a more intuitive, visual workflow.
Mixfield is designed to complement traditional mixing, not replace it. It gives you a faster way to reach a coherent balance, then refine with your usual tools.
